The DIS DANCE Story:
DIS DANCE was established in 2009 by local Primary School teacher and dance teacher Kelly Adams and her youngest and only sister Robyn Whybrow. Both having danced their whole lives, their vision for the studio was to run a highly professional business with a focus on affordable classes, performances and self improvement rather than competitions and eisteddfods. They commenced their business at Schofields Community Centre by holding a Hip Hop Workshop which attracted 40 students in their first week alone. From then on, they began regular classes and have been slowly adding more and more classes due to popular demand. In their second year of business they performed their End of Year Concert with 82 students and in 2011 have doubled their enrolments with over 160 students!
Why are we called DIS DANCE?
One of the first ideas Miss Kelly had was to have a studio with a short but memorable name. Quite accidently she stumbled upon a song called “Like This” by Mimms which chorus repeats “Like Dis” instead of “this”. After choreographing a dance to this and hearing the slang term more and more in everyday life, she decided that “DIS” was possibly the short catchy name she was after. After trying many different names to try and include DIS in the name (including the studio’s previous name of DIS Dance In Studio) she decided to change the name to just "DIS DANCE". The catchy phrase “Wanna dance 4 DIS” is now used in advertising all over the Hills District and all studio singlets are proudly printed with “I Dance 4 DIS” on the back.
